Welcoming Our Newest COG Development Program Grantee: Naomi Wangui Mbugua
At Church of God Network, we believe that empowering brethren to serve their families and communities through meaningful work is a powerful way to strengthen the Body of Christ. Today, we’re excited to introduce Naomi Wangui Mbugua, our newest COG Development Program grantee from Isebania, Kenya.
Naomi is a COG member and brings with her a vision rooted in both practical need and community impact. Her proposed business focuses on the buying and selling of commonly consumed cereals — including maize, beans, rice, millet, sorghum, peas, and oats — staple foods that are in constant demand throughout her region.
Meeting a Real Community Need
In Isebania, access to affordable, reliable, and quality cereals is essential for households, small retailers, and wholesalers alike. Naomi’s business aims to meet this need by ensuring that these staple foods are consistently available year-round, even outside of harvest seasons when prices and supply can fluctuate dramatically.
By sourcing and reselling cereals locally, Naomi hopes to:
-
Support everyday families with affordable food options
-
Supply small shops and wholesalers with dependable inventory
-
Contribute to local economic stability
A Thoughtful Plan for Sustainability
What stood out to us in Naomi’s application was her practical and disciplined approach. Grant funds will be used primarily to purchase initial inventory, with a portion allocated toward transportation and securing a business license — laying a solid, legitimate foundation from the start.
Naomi plans to reinvest profits back into the business, maintain clear records to track growth, and adapt to seasonal challenges such as lower prices during harvest time. She also has access to mentorship support, helping guide her as she launches and grows the business.
Why This Matters
The COG Development Program exists to help brethren turn sustainable ideas into lasting livelihoods. Naomi’s cereal business is a beautiful example of stewardship — using resources wisely, meeting real needs, and building something that can continue long after the initial grant is spent.
We are honored to assist Naomi as she takes this step forward and look forward to seeing how her work blesses her family, congregation, and wider community.
Please join us in celebrating and praying for Naomi as she begins this journey!
