Building Bonds, Strengthening the Body — Reflections from Chicago
One of the greatest blessings we have as members of the Church of God is the opportunity to connect with one in person. This past week, Church of God Network was blessed to experience just that during a wonderful trip to Chicago — a trip filled with fellowship, service, and the unmistakable warmth of God’s family.
On the Sabbath, we were graciously hosted by the Active Bible Church of God. A very special thank you goes to Sandra and Rashida Curtis for inviting us and for their kindness, hospitality, and service throughout the weekend. Welcoming brethren into one’s congregation and home is one of the most tangible expressions of love and unity we can offer. It reminds us that fellowship isn’t just about spending time together—it’s about serving one another in humility, generosity, and genuine care.
The following day, we were privileged to observe Pentecost with the Chicago congregation of the United Church of God, joining nearly 200 brethren to celebrate this powerful Holy Day. The energy and enthusiasm during hymn service from both congregations throughout the weekend was inspiring—both groups demonstrated a joyful, impressive musical spirit that lifted hearts and glorified God.
Each of these interactions, each handshake, conversation, and shared meal, reinforced a simple but profound truth: We are one family in Christ. Despite differing affiliations or circumstances, we are united by one Spirit, one hope, and one calling (Ephesians 4:4-6). It is easy in our day-to-day routines to become isolated within our local groups, but moments like these remind us of the bigger picture. God’s Church is far larger, richer, and more vibrant than any one congregation or organization.
At Church of God Network, our mission has always been to help facilitate these connections—to strengthen relationships, foster cooperation, and serve as a bridge wherever God opens the door. This trip to Chicago was yet another example of how in-person fellowship can break down barriers, build trust, and deepen relationships across the Body of Christ.
True unity is about honoring our shared calling while rejoicing in the diversity of gifts, talents, and experiences God has given His people. We are deeply grateful to everyone who made this trip so special. May we continue to open our hearts and homes, seek opportunities to serve, and embrace the unity we are called to in Christ. The more we step out to connect with one another, the more we reflect the love of our Father and the unity of His coming Kingdom.
