At Church of God Network, we believe in taking action rooted in faith, guided by wisdom, and propelled by purpose. The needs of God’s people are great, and the opportunities for growth, service, and unity are greater still. But meeting those needs requires more than just good intentions—it requires structure, training, and a heart for stewardship.

That’s where our new Grant Committee comes in!

Born out of a desire to both equip young adults and serve the broader Church of God community, the Grant Committee was created with one clear vision: to train up a new generation of faithful stewards—young people who are not only passionate about the Church, but prepared to take on the responsibilities of leadership, discernment, and service.

We know that real impact doesn’t come from throwing money at problems. It comes from intentional, thoughtful investment—investment in ideas that align with God’s purpose, and investment in the people who will carry that purpose forward.

Why Young Adults? Why Now?

Young adults in the Church of God are often filled with zeal, talent, and a deep desire to contribute—but they’re also underutilized. Many feel disconnected from decision-making processes. Others are eager to help but unsure of where to start. At the same time, seasoned members of the Body are carrying heavy loads, often with limited support and few opportunities to pass on their knowledge and experience.

The Grant Committee was designed to be a bridge.

By involving young adults directly in the process of evaluating, awarding, and tracking grants, we create a space where they are not only mentored—but trusted. They’re taught to think like trustees of God’s resources. They learn to ask tough questions, consider the long-term implications of a decision, and weigh how each opportunity can build up the Body of Christ.

This is not a symbolic effort. This is real responsibility. Our committee members review real applications, manage real budgets, and shape the trajectory of real projects that touch lives across the Church of God.

How the Committee Works

Committee members are chosen from different Church of God fellowships, creating a team that is diverse, representative, and committed to unity. As members of the committee, they go through training that equips them to evaluate proposals effectively, understand nonprofit administrative principles, and discern between competing needs.

Each year, the Grant Committee receives applications for Church of God-related programs—projects that align with CGN’s mission of connection, service, and empowerment. Committee members assess whether the proposals are well thought-out, whether the applicants have a clear plan, and whether the project will truly uplift and unify God’s people.

But it doesn’t stop at evaluation.

The committee is also responsible for monitoring the progress of awarded grants and conducting post-grant interviews. These follow-ups help ensure accountability, measure impact, and most importantly, give grantees a chance to share their stories—stories of transformation, of connection, and of God working through His people.

Hands-On Service Beyond the Committee Table

Another key feature of this initiative is that each Grant Committee member will also serve within a CGN program area outside of their grant responsibilities. Whether that’s helping our Within Your Gates team monitor emergencies and crises, supporting social media and communications, or assisting with project development and outreach, every committee member contributes directly to the day-to-day mission of Church of God Network.

This added layer of participation provides a broader perspective on how CGN operates and reinforces the importance of balancing vision with service. It also gives members a chance to sharpen practical skills—like project management, collaboration, and communication—while contributing to efforts that build unity across the Church.

By combining grant evaluation with hands-on nonprofit experience, we’re helping develop well-rounded young leaders who understand both the high-level strategy and the programmatic work of nonprofit service.
